Things to Consider Before Donating Money To An NGO

Donating money to a charity or non-profit organization is a praiseworthy act that also transforms a person into a responsible and better human being and helping underprivileged people to lead a better life. Most people wish to donate to a charity for different reasons, such as helping the cause they are passionate about, bringing a change in society, or getting tax exemption on charity. Whatever the reason is, a donation is actually helpful for both donors and receivers. While the receivers get some help to live a better life, donors also gain a lot of positivity out of it. However, often people feel uncertain about donating money to a particular NGO or charity as they are not sure about the reliability. Here are a few things you need to consider when donating money to a charity.

Consider the Charity Type

When selecting a charity, you have to follow a proactive approach. Avoid giving to just any random NGO that requests you for donations. Be clear with your goal and the kind of charity you wish to support- be it a local or international, start-up or renowned, and small or big. You need to research the organizations, their mission, and methods to help a particular cause. Once you are clear about how they do their business and support different purposes, it will give you peace of mind knowing that they are genuine.

Confidentiality

Many people donate money without mentioning the same publicly. If you also do not want to disclose the significant amount you have donated to a charity, ensure if the NGO you have chosen provides privacy and protection for the information.

Select a Registered NGO

There is a huge difference between attaining a charitable status and being just a non-profit organization. A registered organization can issue a receipt for charitable trust tax exemption. So, you must ensure that the NGO you choose has a registered status.

These are few points worth considering before donating money to a charity or NGO.
